There is no shortage of things to do at night in Tucson. From theatre to music clubs to casinos, there is something there to please every taste. The Arizona Theatre Company is housed at the Temple of Music and Art at 330 S. Scott Ave. This renowned company are masters of a wide variety of theatrical arts from classical drama to musical comedy, and perform from September through May. The theatre itself is a classic building in the Spanish colonial style. The Temple café next door can offer a bite to eat before you enjoy the show. For more information, www.aztheatreco.org If the 1960s is your thing, you must pay a visit to Shelter at 4155 E. Grant Rd, phone, 520- 326-1345. It gets its name from its origins – it was originally a bomb shelter! At this venue, you go back in time to the era of Elvis and Burt Bacharach. The decor is pure 1960s kitsch and general memorabilia from the time. For a fun retro evening, there is nowhere better. If an exciting night's gambling sounds enticing, you will find Casino Of The Sun about five miles west of I-19. Located at 7406 S. Camino de Oeste, this exciting attraction is run by the Pascua Yaqui tribe, and offers the usual casino fare including high-bingo and live poker, as well as video gambling machines. There is an all-you-can-eat buffet and non- alcoholic beer is served. There are free shuttle buses from many points around Tuscon. For more information, see www.casinosun.com On the first & third Saturday of every month, there is an event known as Downtown Saturday Night. This is an outdoor festival which enlivens the entire art-district of galleries, studios and cafes on these two nights of each month. Much of the activities take place on Congress Street and Broadway Boulevard, and along 5th and 6th avenues. It is a carnival atmosphere with dancing in the street and jazz & gospel music at every corner. For more information, check out www.tucsonartsdistrict.org |
